Wrong.

Have you ever just been SO plain WRONG about something?

in particular, a pre-judgement you made about whether or not you would like someone, based on how they look or how they talk or what others have said about them, you just decided you didn’t like them.

but then something happened.

you noticed something about them that you liked. even one, small thing.
and then it was like a waterfall of things and you realized, i was wrong!
i might really like this person!
i’m a FAN of this person!

i LOVE when i’m wrong about my pre-judgements, because it reminds me how transcendent God really is.

my spiritual director told me the other day that a wise friend of hers once said,
judgement limits the potential of what can be.

i LOVE this.

when we judge, we close the doors of possibility. we shut ourselves off to relationships, to experiences, maybe even to how God’s Spirit is at work.

who are we to limit God?

The thing is, God isn’t actually limited by our arbitrary judgements, because the Spirit of love and grace and truth transcends all things, all places, all people.

but WE miss out on all of that when we place up barriers of judgement.
WE miss out on how God is at work beyond what we can see or understand;
– transforming hearts and minds and cracking open hardened hearts;
– shining glimmers of hope in the dark places of the world.

so, i invite you to
release your judgements,
open your eyes,
trust in the Spirit,
and be on the lookout for how God is moving in ways you wouldn’t otherwise have noticed.

may it be so.
